Fort Gibraltar Trail underpass (3)
'Passage'.
The North Face of this pair of underpass Murals in this integrated project. An elderly person gazes at a scene of beauty (the South Face, photo 2).
Photos 4-8 show the progression of work on the North Face; Photos 9-11 show the progression of the South Face.
These two scenes were designed and rendered by Lacey Jane and Layla Folkmann in 2019. Sponsorship was provided by Synonym At Consultation, Graffiti Arts Programming, Wall to Wall Mural and Culture Festival, The Forks, Benjamin Moore Paints, United Rentals, Take Pride Winnipeg and Dulux Paints. These CN Rail Underpass walls get grimy and dirty over time, and by the end of 2022 they had deteriorated to the point where the details were no longer discernable. Original Notes Follow:===
Lacey & Layla: "It's important for us to celebrate age diversity, paying tribute to the
elderly and
honouring the beauty of growing older and wiser."
ABOUT
Originally hailing from Edmonton, AB, Lacey Jane and Layla Folkmann are a female
collaboration specializing in Murals and urban art since 2010. Working exclusively
as a synchronized duo, they have produced over 60 Murals all across Canada, from a
4,000 square foot farm silo in the Ontario countryside to the notable Rogers Place
Arena in downtown Edmonton. Internationally, Lacey and Layla have painted in
Honduras, France, and Northern Uganda, where we completed a series of Murals
working with a local orphanage and "Freedom in Creation" - an artistic centre for the
rehabilitation of former child soldiers. Lacey and Layla have participated in multiple
Mural festivals across Canada, such as Expo Quebec (2015), Montreal Mural Fest (2016
and 2018) and Womxn Paint, Toronto (2018). They currently live in Montreal, where
they
work both independently on studio arts and collaboratively on Mural work, and are the
only female artists working with the Montreal Mural legacy A'Shop.
