Latex acrylic on canvas (3' x 4'), 1999. Photo courtesy of Mike Valcourt. "The client wanted this for his office and commissioned me do it. It's based on the covers to War and Peace: there are two different covers, and I combined elements from the two of them and made a new one. I made the sky more electric; you can see it's more sweepy and stormy. That's Napoleon crossing the Alps. The only stipulation he gave me was he wanted Napoleon bright and vibrant; so I used a white horse as opposed to the brown horse on the cover and I made the background brown instead of yellow. I also made the mountains more washed, less rocky than the original."
